We have recently undertaken an assignment at the port of Los Cristianos (Tenerife South). It was the lifting of a very peculiar type of boat: a submarine. This tourist boat measures 18.5 meters long, 4 meters wide and 6.5 meters high; its total weight is 106 tons. Given the limited size that offers the esplanade of the port, two mobile cranes were used to perform the lifting operation with maximum safety: LTM 1200 y LTM 1250, with 200 and 250 tons respectively.
This type of boats, like other ships, need to be in the dry dock from time to time to perform maintenance. Small crustaceans and algae adhere to the hull and must be removed for safety reasons, especially in such type of boats, which are almost entirely submerged.
This submarine belongs to a tour company that is specialized in boat trips to observe the sea bottom and the creatures that populate the south of Tenerife sea. She is based in Marina San Miguel and has been in operation since 2007 . She is the only submarine operating in the island. During the immersion, lasting about an hour, different types of sea fish and multiple stingrays are usually observed.
