We recently had the opportunity to transport an aircraft belonging to the now disappeared Islands Airways, an airline operating in the Canary Islands.
This special charge is a model ATR 72 airliner, which seats up to 74 seats and is powered by turboprop engines. With a length of about 27 meters and an empty weight of around 12 tonnes, in the disassembly operation and during transport, we have been particularly careful when maneuvering to prevent the body from receiving any kind of shock or pressure that may deform it and lose its aerodynamic qualities.
In the disassembly operation and hoisting operation, we used our mobile crane LTM 1055, capable of lifting up to 55 tons with its telescopic arm. Thanks to the small size of this vehicle, we could operate comfortably inside a hangar that held more aircrafts and whose height was also a challenge. So, for greater maneuverability, our Mercedes lorry crane was used, equipped with a Fassi F360 crane. Subsequently, transport was realized in a gondola trailer.
Each Transportes Carballo client, every load we carry, has unique characteristics, and therefore we work hand in hand with the customer so that everything goes in the best way possible. In the past we have made transport and assembly of airport facilities as gateways (called “Fingers”), luggage conveyor belts, stairs for aircraft and even vehicles to tow aircrafts, however, this time the transport was the aircraft itself.
